A number of years ago I "created" my perfect "job".
It wasn't given to me, but, rather I created it.
One of the key elements of my "perfect" job is working with children. Honestly, I have learned more from children than any other group of people I have ever worked with.
Which brings me to this morning.
I had the privledge to deliver a "Healthy Mind/Body" program to a group of grade 4, 5, and 6 students. I have been to this school a few times already, but never at the start of the day.
Let me start by saying that this school is no ordinary school.
This school is a very special place.
As soon as you walk through the front doors, you can feel the difference.
The students, staff, administration, volunteers and parents make this school a warm, and welcoming community. You can feel it with every experience with everyone in the community.
I've only been there a few times, but it feels like home.
Back to this morning. I headed to the gym to start to get ready for the group of students that were coming down, and then it happened.....over the announcements the welcoming voice of the Principal and the three lessons I learned about how to start your day off right:
1) A moment of quiet reflection - and the school of almost 600 students was silent, reflecting, in their own personal way.
2) The Playing of the National Anthem - With all students standing, giving their respect, and many even singing the words.
3) Music & Exercise - after the announcements the sounds of some great (yes, disco is great) upbeat disco music filled the school. The students got up and moved, danced, and exercised, and the energy was electric. Even the most "crusty" person would have a hard time staying in a bad mood after hearing the music and dancing around.
WOW! What a fantastic way to start everyday!
It makes me want to go back to grade school, which begs the question: "Why can't we all doing the daily three to start each day"?
Then answer is......WE CAN....you just have to make it happen.
I challenge you to get your company on board with the daily three, and watch the difference in the energy levels in your office.
Next challenge.......return to recess breaks!
