Whether you want to start a business, better manage yourself and your career or you want better relationships with the people you care about, here are great tips for managing your time and creating the life you imagine.

Three Tips for Investing Your Time Well by Shawn Shepheard

“You’re the average of the five people you spend the most time with, so be really selective.”

Think about that quote. Who you spend your time with sets the bar for what you'll accomplish. If you're spending your time with go-getters who make the world a better place or positive thinkers and do-ers, odds are their mojo will rub off on you. On the other hand, people who complain, don't try or are negative, can bring you down. Don't get us wrong. You need to be there for your loved ones and vice versa. But, be aware of your energy and your time and what you want to accomplish. If you're honest with yourself, you'll know whether you need to make new friends and connections.

Here are three tips that can help >>

Success Takes Help by Simon Sinek

There is something to be said for being the smartest or the most talented one in the room...too bad it doesn't help much in reality.

Success, by any definition, is a team sport. I learned this little detail the hard way. There was a time in my life that I thought that if I wanted to make anything out of myself, I'd be responsible for all of it by myself. I thought I could do everything primarily because I thought I should do everything. I needed to know how to be the boss, the accountant, the creative director, the marketing manager, the HR director, set the strategy and do the work with my clients. Even if I hired or worked with others, I wanted to be the final say on everything. This was a brilliant strategy until three things happened:

1. I learned I wasn't good at everything

2. I didn't have the energy to do everything

3. I failed

Want to know what changed? It can affect how well you run yourself and your business >>

Time Management and Multi-Tasking by Mike RogersHow many IQ points do you drop when multi-tasking? The answer (insert drum roll...) - 10 points! That's right, a whole 10 points according to a British study. When people try to juggle reading email messages and/or chat while working , they lose the same amount of IQ points as if they had missed an entire night's sleep. And, more than double the four points lost from smoking marijuana! And get this, men lose more IQ points than women.

So what's the solution? No, the answer isn't just turning off the gadgets. Read more >>

Four Tips to Generate Courage by Sandra Ford Walston

We've all heard that the engine that can bring our economy to life are small businesses and entrepreneurs. After all, they're responsible for creating nearly 80% of the new jobs in America.

As entrepreneurs maneuver through business pursuits, they recognize defining moments and apply “everyday courage.” Cognizant of the etymology of courage (meaning, “heart and spirit”), their courage consciousness is vital to their success, particularly during times of uncertainty. If you're not an entrepreneur, these defining moments or behaviors will still help you.

Here are four key behaviors that move us forward >>

As painful as it can be, failure can be your path to success. Think of it as a process of elimination. The quicker you move through failure, the faster you'll achieve success. And, remember, standing still and not doing anything is still a risk.

When you're considering a promotion or a move, the key is to ensure not only that your skills and abilities match up with the needs of the organization, but that you fit well with the organization's culture.

One reason so many leaders fail is that they become isolated. We all need good friends who "have our back," as my friend and business colleague Jason Pankau likes to say. Good friends tell us the truth, they are willing to speak up if they believe we are wrong, and they support and encourage us through the inevitable difficult seasons we all experience in life. Read more>>

Excellent Sports Role Models by Sandwiched Boomers

Legendary U.C.L.A. basketball coach John Wooden was known for his inspiration and motivation, on and off the court. His philosophy of life - as well as his entire persona - exemplified the values we wish to impart to our children. His style was gracious, even as he focused on creating "Competitive Greatness" in his players and in the rest of us, through his Pyramid of Success. He stressed fundamentals, teamwork and good sportsmanship, using home-grown aphorisms.

Looking back over Wooden's sayings, it's clear that they don't relate only to competitive athletes but rather to all of us who strive for a life of meaning. Some of his quotes come to mind after reviewing recent sporting events that represent more than just games.
