About me
April Lane Benson, PhD., is a nationally known psychologist who specializes in the treatment of compulsive buying disorder. She has been in private practice in New York City for over 30 years.Dr. Benson is the founder of Stopping Overshopping, LLC, and creator of Stopping Overshopping, a comprehensive program to help eliminate compulsive buying.
She works with individuals and groups, both by telephone, for people outside of the New York metropolitan area, and in person in her Manhattan office. She also sends out a quarterly newsletter, filled with informative tips for overshoppers, book suggestions and proven strategies for stopping overshopping.

She is the editor of I Shop, Therefore I Am: Compulsive Buying and the Search for Self. Her newest book is To Buy Or Not To Buy: Why We Overshop and How to Stop. The book can be ordered with two companion Shopping Journals, for doing the written exercises of the program outlined in the book.
